Reserve Bank may cut rates

Economists predict that the Reserve Bank may hand homeowners a 0.5% rate cut at its meeting next month. The Reserve Bank usually moves the cash rate by only 0.25%, but it is desperate to avoid a major economic slowdown.

The last time the Reserve Bank cut rates by 0.5% was in 2001 when the Japanese and US economies were heading into recession.
