2. Don't leave your shopping until the last minute. Buy things throughout the year - sales are a great time to do this. Take advantage of lay-by. Not only does this avoid the last-minute dash to teh shops, it also means your spending is spread across the year. Shop with the list - otherwise you might end up blowing your budget out of sheer desperation or going home with nothing
3. Consider a 'mystery santa' arrangement with your family members to draw a name out of a hat and only buying a present for that person. Don't forget to set a price limit so that no one goes overboard.
