Commonwealth bank set to raise rates

The nation's largest lender, the Commonwealth Bank is considering raising rates on its standard variable home loans by about 0.10 per cent.

The controversial move, which may be announced as early as this week, would take the CBA's variable mortgage rate to 5.74%, equal to the variable rate now being offered by NAB.

A bank spokesman said competitive pressure from the term deposit had added to the bank's costs.
