No more rate rises under Easter 2011 predicted

Some economic analysts are now predicting that the RBA will not raise rates again until March or even April 2011. Private sector borrowing is still weak and the current account deficit has widened beyond expectations. "The RBA would be well aware that the forward looking data suggests that growth is likely to be subdued in the near term,"

Commsec economist Savanth Sebastian said "Interest rates are likely to remain on hold for the next few months, to support investment and activity."

While ANZ senior economist Katie Dean said the chances of a rate rise before April were remote."There was nothing in the data that would provide any ammunition for the RBA to lift rates before at least the second quarter of next year," Ms Dean said.
