NSW Budget urges retirees to downsize and buy new homes

The NSW Government has proposed extensive savings in its budget in an effort to encourage NSW retirees to downsize and buy new homes. The NSW budget includes zero stamp duty for seniors buying new homes under $600,000 and up to $22,490 in savings for downsizing over-65s.

The discount only applies to newly constructed house or unit purchases, off-the-plan and house and land packages.

The NSW budget also caters for other home loan borrowers, offering zero stamp duty for off-the-plan purchases or house and land packages costing less than $600,000. There is also a 25% stamp duty discount for homebuyers if construction is already underway.
