Life insurance inadequate for most
More than a quarter of working households say they need life insurance cover of $400,000 or more, according to a survey by the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees. However, only 9% have this level of protection through life insurance. On average people have $1,890,000 worth of life cover through their super fund, often under the default option.
