Margin calls hit new record highs

According to the Reserve Bank of Australia, almost 900 investors per day were subjected to margin calls during the September quarter of 2008. Out of 202,000 margin lending accounts in Australia, there were 870 calls per day in the 3 months to 30 September 2008. Even more margin calls are expected to have been made in the December quarter.
