National Australia Bank's monthly business survey shows that business confidence has increased in August 2009 to it's highest level since October 2003.

The improvement was most pronounced in the retail, finance, manufacturing and recreational and personal services sectors. This is good news for the economy as it comes on top of recent data showing a rise in job advertisements.

In other news, a recent survey has found that 47% of household's financial positions have improved in September 2009, compared to their positions in June 2009 and the same period last year.

People are expressing more optimism and are feeling more confident about their financial future.
The survey also found that holiday or travel has returned to its usual position as the most popular reason for saving at 51.6%, saving for a "rainy day or precaution" fell to 43.9%, after being the number one response in the June 2009 survey at 50.8%.
